Astore participates in a solidarity project that combines musical tradition and education in Ghana
2010-08-25
Astore is a sponsor for social commitment in the Sounds of Ghana project, solidarity-cultural initiative created by Sublime World Productions and focused on the musical traditions from this country located on Africa´s western coast. With the collaboration of Ghana´s National TV, this audiovisual production company plans to film a movie this summer, and from this and other contents it will organise events such as exhibits, concerts, workshops, etc., that will take place in Accra, Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona in 2011, as well as the publication of a book and DVD.
The project´s main focus is to convey the importance of the role of traditional music in children´s education. "We believe that music is a universal language and an instrument for peace and unity that can be used in education as a vehicle for individual development, inspiration, and liberation," as explained by the production company. For this reason, their aim is to "become closer to the various musical styles in Ghana that are so unique, discover the role of music in the development and education of children, and describe how this musical inheritance is passed on from one generation to the next."
Astore´s contribution consists in donating 80 balls, which will be distributed throughout the various towns via schoolteachers. Sublime World Productions explains the importance of this gesture for the recipients, although it may seem very simple to us. "All the schools are equipped with goals, but oftentimes students spend long periods without being able to play because no balls are available, and it can be a while until someone travels to Accra to replace them," the production company explains.
